Waterways Ireland – is responsible for the management, maintenance and restoration of the inland navigable waterway system throughout the island.

Improvements/ Upgrade Works to footpaths and fences along Locks 1 – 7 on the Royal Canal and the 2nd Lock of The Grand Canal.

Over the years, footpaths have become rutted, sunken and waterlogged, and tree roots were protruding in places.  Work involved upgrading these areas so making them suitable for maintenance vehicles and pedestrian traffic.  It also enables Waterways Ireland staff and boat users to operate the locks safely.

Work commenced on October 17th 2012, and was completed in January 2013
